This course has been created specifically with Line Managers in mind, with the aim to allow them to successfully and confidently manage their employees stress and mental health in the workplace. The course will teach your Line Managers all about ‘stress’ and ‘mental ill-health’, and the importance of effective management of these issues.

The key course objective is to provide delegates with an outline of what needs to be achieved in order to deliver a successful, inclusive and supportive strategy for stress and mental health management in the workplace.

Topics covered:

  • Understanding what ‘stress’ and ‘mental health’ is, and common conditions seen amongst staff in the workplace.
  • The Business Case for managing stress and mental health – ‘Why this Matters’ from a line managers perspective. (Look at the cost and implications of Presenteeism / Absenteeism /Staff Turnover).
  • The critical importance of the role of the line manager in managing stress in the workplace.
  • Recognising signs and symptoms of stress and mental ill health in yourselves and others.
  • An appreciation of the mental health continuum model as it related to individuals presenting with stress and mental ill health in the workplace.
  • Details of the support measures that you already have in place for staff and management (including services, policy and procedure details and where to reference). This will reflect your management strategies and processes (First Aiders, Mental Health Champions, Resilience training, etc.) and where managers can access further assistance.
  • Importance of workplace issues to overcome stigma and discrimination lack of understanding and fear of addressing mental health issues.
  • Evidence of how awareness to stress and mental health is being raised across the Lloyd’s Market (brief view into how other companies are also committing to managing stress and mental health in the workplace).
  • How to manage an employee who may want to talk to their line manager directly regarding stress and mental ill health. Education in the ALGEE approach (A: Conversation approach/L: Listen and communicate non-judgmentally/G: Give emotional support and information, E: Encourage professional help, E: Encourage other support.
  • The importance of line managers and staff developing ‘Protective Factors’ :

Price and availability:

The Line Manager training: Managing Stress and Mental Health course can either be run in house at your offices, or at our venue in the Lloyd’s building, City of London, EC3.

This course is 3.5 hours duration, but we can split it into 2 x 1h 45mins modules (on separate days), so that your Line Managers are not committed to a full 3.5 hour course at one time.

We can train up to 25 delegates for £1150 + VAT, or up to 50 delegates for £1850 + VAT.
(If training is provided outside of the City of London, then we will charge expenses.)
